Interest in shooting, stalking and fishing has never been stronger according to rural property experts Knight Frank estate agents. The estate agents has used their Sporting Property index to reveal how the value of salmon rivers, trout chalk streams, grouse moors and Scottish red deer stalking estates have soared, after struggling during the 2008 financial crash. The best grouse moors are now being sold at prices equivalent to £5,500 per brace, while the best "double-bank beats" for trout fishing are fetching £800 per metre. The average value of a Scottish river has also reached a level of just over £7,000 per salmon. The report details how ‘trophy’ properties, which any sportsman would want to own if money were no object, include double-bank beats on the Test and Itchen, and the best spots on the Spey, Dee, Tweed and Tay. “If the most famous salmon fishing beat in the world, Junction Pool on the Tweed,” the report says, “was ever put up for sale, it would make far more than £10,000 per fish.” All of which means anyone heading out hunting, shooting or fishing in 2014 should be prepared to make the most of their time. The best way to do so, of course, is to be as best equipped as possible — which is where Fur, Feather and Fin can help.
