A Labrador named Bruce has been named the UK’s best gundog at the Country Land and Business Association’s annual Gundog of the Year competition. Bruce won the title of ‘top dog’ at the competition at Blenheim palace, in Oxfordshire, last week. Owner Andy Latham, from Middlewich in Cheshire, was delighted to see Bruce take the title after undertaking a number of challenging tests. The competition aims to find the UK’s top retriever and sees many of the country’s leading dog handlers take part. While Andy was pleased to see Bruce win the main competition, he was also given extra reasons to smile as Bruce took home a number of additional awards - including prizes for Top Individual Dog and Top International Retriever. Proud Andy said he was delighted to take the top honour after three hard days of competition. He thanked the CLA and everyone involved with the competition, and said he enjoyed the event. “It was three long days but I enjoyed it tremendously and was delighted Bruce coped so well, especially given the weather and hot conditions,” he said. Andy, who works as a joiner but trains dogs in his spare time, also said he was very proud to have been part of a successful England team, which won the team award. “Having been part of the England team since 1999 and win the top team award is fantastic,” he said. “To win the gundog of the year competition is the icing on the cake.” If you have ambitions of winning Gundog awards like Andy and Bruce why not head over to the dogs section of our website?
