The world-famous Spanish Riding School of Vienna is renowned for its stunning equestrian displays, showcasing the dedication, skill and close bond shared by both horse and rider. Throughout the autumn season, the troupe are leaving Vienna to take their show across Europe, including live shows in the UK. Established in 1580 by the Archduke Charles II, the School created its own unique and famous horse breed, the Lipizzaner, crossing imported Spanish stallions with the native Karst breed. The School used to only open its doors to members of the Royal Court, but today it is open to the public, who can tour the stables as well as watch the performances. Made up of 28 horses, 9 riders and 9 grooms, together the troupe put on a fantastic show which demonstrates some of the world’s most highly skilled riding techniques. As well as work in hand and work on the long rein, the routine works in more complex haute école movements such as the levard, courbette and the capriole. British audiences are in for a special treat as the Spanish Riding School will also be joined by three Olympic gold medallists: Carl Hester MBE, Lee Pearson CBE and Natasha Baker MBE. They will perform a routine before the main show, as well as giving the audience an expert talk on the training process. Having already performed in Sheffield last month, the showalso comes to the Wembley Arena in London for three shows on the 14th-16th November.
